Importing contact into groups

Is it possible to import contacts into individual groups?

e.g.

I have 1000 contacts I would like to import but out the 1000 I would like to put 500 in group A and 500 in group B.

Is there any way that I can create Group A then import the 500 into Group A and then create Group B and import the other 500?

First you should create two different mailing lists like list A and list B, second you can import the first 500 addresses and subscribe them to list A (via step6 of the import wizard) and third you import the second 500 addresses and subscribe them to list B.
