Does OpenEMM have to be installed on an existing SMTP Server

Hi Guys,
I'm planning to deploy OpenEMM, does it have installed on the same server where the mail server is installed? I'm planning to install it on a separate server, is it okay to install OpenEMM separately? Our mail server is using Postfix as SMTP and has multiple virtual domains using MySQL, do I need to do anything out of the ordinary to make it work in case I have to install OpenEMM on the same server? In case OpenEMM is installed separately, what changes do I need to make on the DNS configuration in order for the Mail Server (postfix) receive emails from replies made by recipients from the newsletters sent by OpenEMM?
TIA
