"Error in dyn tags."

Hi,
I've just upgraded from v6.2 to 2011 on Windows 2008 64bit.
The upgrade seems to have gone well and I have access to be previous mailings and templates.
However, since the upgrade I'm unable to Preview my templates. I've even tried to create a new default template, with the same error, as below.
With existing upgraded templates and a new default blank template, when previewing I get the "Error in dyn tags." error.
Template (this is the default cotnent):
Text version:
[agnDYN name="Text"/]
HTML version:
[agnDYN name="HTML-Version"/]
Content
Code: Select all
Text module Target group Content
HTML-Version All subscribers Html templates
Text All subscribers Test template
Where am I going wrong?

ok, I've just spent the last hour or so rebuilding the OpenEMM v2011 from scratch. Not an upgrade as I assumed the error was introduced in a poor upgrade path. Same o/s as last time, Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit, fully patched.
However, I'm getting the same exact error with a complete fresh install of OpenEMM v2011.
"Error in dyn tags." when previewing the template.
Even again creating a new blank template, same as above. This has left me suspecting there's some poor coding in the product for the windows version. ???
Does anyone have this same problem?

xmlback which is responsible to create the preview was compiled with a MS C compiler for 32 Bit Windows. Maybe that is the problem? We do not have access to 64 Bit Windows to check this.

ok, that makes sense, but this is the same server that used for v6.2 - so same 64bit server used before upgraded to v2011.
Why would preview work for v6.2 on a windows 2008 64bit, but not v2011 on the same windows server 2008 64bit?

Have you had a look at the log (catalina.out) when you try to execute the preview?

Try to execute xmlback from shell without any parameters. Does it start? If not, what kind of error message do you get?

I can't find catalina.out log files on the windows version?
The only file that gets updated after the services have started and when the error is generated is 20110920-Dosy-semu.log, with the following entries:
Dosy - being the server name.

I found xmlback at the below path, I ran it in at the prompt, with no obvious result. There was no error returned when executing it.
c:\openemm\bin\xmlback.exe
Does this exclude the 32bit compiler issue?

Also, after running xmlback with no visible errors, I re-ran the preview in the browser and it still error'd.

Is Resin required for v2011 on windows, could that be it?

Sorry, the Tomcat log for Windows has a different name. You will find the log in logs/tomcat with file name catalina.<timestamp>.log.

I've found catalina.2011-09-21.log, and here's the contents. It references something is not found, maybe that is it? Maybe the JAVA path isn't set correctly?

I've updated the system variable PATH to include the path:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
I'm not sure why or if it is normal, but I have this JAVA install too:
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26\bin
I restarted tomcat, with the complete log below:

Even after adding the new path, I still get the same error.
Does this help?

I can confirm this problem, in OpenEMM 2011, but on a fresh installation, no upgrade from any old version.
We have OpenEMM just installed on Debian Linux (Tomcat6, JDK6), and I just created a new mailing using the assistant and the default [de] template that's in OpenEMM after the installation already (without modifying anything of it).
When I preview the mailing I am getting "Fehler in Dyn-Tags." / "Error in dyn tags." as well. I had not had the chance yet to check the Tomcat logs, but will try to get access to it.
Update:
I checked the Tomcat logfile, seems to be a permission problem.
Code: Select all

What is your o/s and version, and 32bit/64bit?
Looking at your log file, firstly it appears you are on Linux, correct? if so, this adds a different issues as I am on Windows 2008 64bit.
it appears you're having problems either wiht your java path or accessing the xmlback (I understand xmlback is the program that generates the preview.)
I was previously advised just to run xmlback from the prompt; please do that and advise if you have any error?
