Unicode or double byte support?

Hi all,
I found that Unicode is used to present the OpenEMM user interface. But all the data (not ASCII, let's say Chinese or Korean) input to database become question marks. Does OpenEMM really support unicode? Will it be a problem of the MySQL charset?
One more thing, there are gb2312 encoding support everywhere in OpenEMM. But seems that it shows me question marks even I input GB2312 characters.
Would anyone please help me?
Thanks.
