Questions: SSL, ports 8080, 8081

I have installed OpenEMM 5.3.0-1 and the installation went pretty smoothly.
It is running on a Xen/CentoOS5 VM.
Yay! Can't wait to start using it. I have some questions:
1. How can I run the interface over a secure connection so passwords don't get sniffed?
2. I have another java web app I want to run on the same server. Both want to use port 8080. Should I just change OpenEMM to run on it's own custom port(s)? Or, is there some way of integrating it with the regular Tomcat install?
I guess I would be running two different containers? I'm a little confused over how OpenEMM is apparently integrated with Tomcat, rather than running inside it.
3. Why are both port 8080 and 8081 open? What's the difference?
Thanks!
Liam
