So many unanswered threads! :(

Post by Groove »

As a potential user, I am concerned about the number of unanswered threads in this forum. I know the product is free and open source. But most of the best open source products have much more active and helpful support forums than this one.

Did you expect to get an answer to this thread then? :-D

The userbase for OpenEMM seems to be growing at a pace but is not as large as some more popular projects.

I guess by it's very nature the types and numbers of users of this system are never going to be massive.

Many of the threads that remain unanswered have probably been answered elsewhere or there is insufficient information to help the OP.

If you have a question, just ask it. Almost all of my queries over the past 18 months or so have been responded to in good time and with courtesy.

This is a cracking product. By far the best FOSS email marketing platform that is available. And it is free.

There are partners around the globe who can help you install, setup and use OpenEMM if you need it too.

Disclaimer, I run one such company in the UK.

Thanks for the reply and the insight lord_alan :)

As for asking a question, I did, 10-days ago:
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:21 pm Post subject: Can I create individualized newsletters?

Is it possible to have users select from a list of multiple topics of interest when they subscribe, then send them newsletters that ONLY include content related to their chosen (multiple) topics?

But as yet, it remains unanswered.

I don't think this is easy to do with the standard platform.

However, you could almost certainly create a "front end" which presents the user with multiple choices and then auto-subscribes them to various mailing lists. Along with some creative use of Target Groups and Profile Fields...

The short answer: I think you would need to design something...

Well I certainly can't complain about the promptness of that reply!

Thanks for the advice Al :)

This is possible, of course. I recommend to take the time and read the OpenEMM manual to learn about the possibilites of OpenEMM (in this case: custom database fields, target groups and content blocks for certain target groups).

Still unsure how this would work

Ma, thanks for the reply :)

I read the documentation before posting, and in the light of your reply I have read it again. But I'm still unsure how OpenEMM could be used to achieve my objective. Could you offer a little more explanation?

I understand how target groups can receive different versions of a newsletter. But what I need is for each recipient to belong to MULTIPLE target groups (each recipient would have their own unique combination of multiple target groups) and receive a newsletter which merges content relevant to each of their target groups.

Is it a matter of creating separate text modules which are each assigned to a specific target group; then creating a template containing AGNITAS tags that references ALL of these text modules? Would the template then merge only the text modules relevant to a recipient's unique combination of multiple target groups (ie ignoring text modules not assigned to their groups)?

If you can confirm that this or some other solution is possible, I will install OpenEMM and start figuring-out how it works in practice.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

You can define target groups as you like. You can either send different mailings to different target groups or you can create one mailing (based on a template) with several text modules. For every text module you can create alternatives for any target group. If the recipient does not belong to a target group a text module is assigned to the text module is left out of his/her email.

That sounds promising :) Will download/install OpenEMM and start testing.

Thanks for the prompt reply!
