Transaction-based emails

I see that listed as a feature, but cannot find the documentation. Can anyone point me to the documentation for transaction-based emails?

Transaction mails aka service mails are single mails triggered externally. OpenEMM offers two possibilities:

1. Use event-based mailings and trigger them via the webservice interface.

2. Use action "service mail" to trigger sending of individual mails.

Where are the documentation for those? I'm having trouble tracking down the documentation for that.
